You know me, I can’t keep these things to myself hence why I told everyone I was pregnant at just 6 weeks. Some may say that’s very risky but hey, I like living on the edge.
I’m currently sat listening to some terrible music whilst on hold to Ikea because apparently we are expecting a delivery today. I’ve ordered some storage for our living room because people keep asking where all the babies toys will go. Um, I hadn’t really thought that far ahead if I’m honest but seeing as we probably won’t have the time nor the money when the baby is born, I figured I better get organised.
Over the weekend I rolled (quite literally) into my thirty-second week of pregnancy and I honestly can’t believe it’s gone so quickly. It seems like only yesterday I waited for those little pink lines to appear on the pregnancy test and now look at me, all belly and chins. Very attractive if you ask me.
It was also the weekend of my baby shower and what a gorgeous shower it was. My friends out did themselves by decorating my house and turning it into something very Pinterest-worthy. They kicked me out at 12pm and I returned at 2pm to find a display of grey and white cupcakes, balloons, pom poms and the most amazing cake made by Julie from Cakes and Cupcakes by Jules. I also had some gorgeous bunting made by my friend Anya and you can find her Facebook page here.
So I guess I need to spill the beans before actually inserting some pictures as the cake did have his name on. We have decided to call our little boy…
It was the only name we could agree on and believe me, we went through a lot of names. I always wanted something different and not too popular and before we knew what we were having, I had a list of gorgeous girl names because, LOL, I was adamant it was a girl. Boy names were an after thought tbh.
I do think picking a name for a boy is a lot harder as there aren’t that many names I really like. I also found that I knew a dog with the same name as I liked and that really put me off. Yes, I know Dexter is probably a dog’s name too but I’m yet to meet a dog with that name so I’m not bothered.
So how is month 7 of pregnancy treating me? Well apart from my lack of sleep, which I can only assume is going to get worse, I feel pretty good. I could have carried on cleaning for longer had my back not been so painful as I’m not struggling with the things like bending down, sitting on the floor or even climbing on kitchen counters to clean windows. Although I would not recommend that if you are heavily pregnant! But like I said, my back is really hurting the more I do and I find even dog walking aggravates it.
With only 7 weeks to go we are pretty much prepared, or as prepared as we can possibly be anyway. For anyone wanting to know, we aren’t doing any antenatal classes or breastfeeding classes because I didn’t like the idea of them. Originally I was planning to ‘wing it’ and adopt the mindset that having a plan never really works out anyway so let’s just go with the flow. But as the weeks have gone by I’ve developed this fear of labour and it keeps me awake at night. Basically I’m scared of pain. That’s the bottom line.
So I bought the positive birth book and have been reading it before bed in hope that I will be able to change my mindset. I’ve also got a hypnobirthing CD which I’ve put onto my phone as my friend practiced hypnobirthing and she had an amazing labour. Not to say that it will work for me but I have to admit, I haven’t read a bad birthing story from someone who has done hypnobirthing. I think it will be very beneficial to someone like me who needs help calming down in stressful situations. Fingers crossed I can nail the breathing techniques over the next 7 weeks.
I’ve also changed my mind about having an epidural. I was always adamant I wouldn’t have one because the thought of having a massive needle inserted into my spine isn’t the one. But y’know what? Having to feel my vagina tear probably isn’t the one either so I’ll keep an open mind I think. LOL.
Anyway, I think that’s all I got for you this week so I’ll leave you to admire the pictures of my amazing baby shower and the very thoughtful gifts I received. I did, however, remove some of the images of me because no one needs to see how big my double chin has got.
Thank you to everyone who helped organise my beautiful shower for our little boy Dexter.
