On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Abs. Oh and maybe some bubble bath because I keep forgetting to buy it and if I have to have one more fairy liquid bath I’m going to scream.
Let’s face it, it’s going to take a lot more than 12 days to get me in shape but at least it beats sitting on the couch and diving head first into a family size tin of quality street right?
Because that is actually me every single year. The person who, when it hits December 1st, basically thinks it’s Christmas. For the entire month. I eat whatever I want, I drink too much, I stop working out and before I know it, it’s January and I’m thinking about what new diet to start in order to shift the few extra pounds I’ve gained.
Well not this year.
This year I’m changing things up a bit because I have decided to take advantage of the 12 days for £12 at The Wiltshire Golf club where Rich works. I’m on day 4 and going strong. I’m slightly sore and more hungry than I’ve been in a while but even after just 4 days I’m feeling a lot better.
The good thing about this deal is that I have to go 12 consecutive days in a row so there’s no time for slacking and making excuses that my legs are too sore to workout and that I need a rest day, I gotta just get on with it and quit acting like a little sissy.
So yeah, come Christmas Day, I may not have reached my goal of looking like Louise Thompson from Made In Chelsea (has anyone actually seen her though?! I wasted at least 15 minutes on her insta the other day and basically gained nothing) but at least I will be able to eat my Christmas dinner with a clear conscience because god damn it I tried.
I was working out regularly throughout the summer, managing to make it to at least 3 Crossfit classes a week and I really noticed the difference in my body’s appearance. But as we all know, working out during the winter months when it’s dark and cold can be really tough and it’s so easy to fall out of your routine. I also had to give up Crossfit because it was costing me more money than I like to spend on fitness and also because I kept getting ill and missing the classes. I wrote about this here for anyone who’s interested. And once my routine is broken I just can’t seem to motivate myself enough to get back on it and before I know it, it’s been months since I did anything remotely exercise related.
Being self-employed, I find it hard to switch off and not put my work first as there always seems to be something to do, whether it’s editing a shoot, blogging shoots, organising and keeping on top of my cleaning business or just generally doing boring accounts, I tend to put this before anything. So if I do have a spare few hours you can guarantee I will fill my time with something ‘work related’ instead of using the time to workout. But with only 9 days left until Christmas Day, I thought why not put myself first for a few weeks? Why not leave all the work until January where I can really concentrate on things with a clear ‘New Year’ head?
And it actually feels really good to fit working out into my schedule again and also to be able to workout where Rich works so he can help me train. I have decided to continue to do Crossfit workouts because there are so many to choose from and they are relatively quick but also tough and great for maximum fat burn. I can’t say I look forward to them but that’s because every part of my body hurts when I’m doing them! But afterwards I feel amazing and that’s what keeps me motivated. I’m doing weights again too but keeping things fairly light as I’ve had so much time off and I don’t want to get over confident and hurt my back again!
So let’s hope that by Christmas Day I can post a pre dinner ab selfie before jumping face first into my plate of carbs! I’ll keep you posted… Wish me luck!
