Happy New Year! I hope you had an amazing one whatever you decided to do. We stayed in for the first time and had Rich’s brother and wife over for nibbles and games. All very chilled and grown up if you ask me. We did have the option of going out with my family but I didn’t fancy drinking too much and feeling terrible the next day. However, I’ve just woken up with a banging headache so I guess that didn’t really work out too well for me.
I’ve just made myself some lemon water, not because I’m all like: new year, new me, but because I really do need it this morning. My new Fitbit has been telling me how badly I’ve slept over the past few days and I’m wondering if that is the cause of these headaches. Who knows.
I’m not really a new year resolution sort of person but I do have a few things I’d like to achieve this year and they aren’t exactly small so I am actually getting my butt organised in 2017.
Starting with my new planner I picked up from Sainsbury’s this week.
I generally prioritise tasks by how I feel at the time, so if I’m into my blogging then I blog, and if I’m feeling motivated to push my photography then I’ll crack on with that instead. This hasn’t worked well for me in the past and it’s taken me a while to realise! With no schedule to follow it’s easy to only focus on the things that I enjoy rather than putting time into the tasks that really do need doing. Such as blogging my recent shoots. This isn’t something I do solely to share my images with people, I’m actually blogging with a purpose of trying to rank higher on google, which seems to be an ongoing battle if I’m honest. I swear Google will be the end of me.
Then there’s the absolutely mind numbingly boring task of sorting my accounts for my cleaning business each week. This involves collecting together receipts and organising my diary for the week after and doing invoices… is anyone asleep yet?
If I did this every week then it wouldn’t take that long but I put it off and before I know it I’m 6 months behind! Shit.
So this year I’ve written down on my planner exactly what I’ll be working on each day even if I really don’t want to. Blog on Mondays, do something creative on Tuesdays like take photos, or colour in my new Magical Jungle book, or simply read. Wednesday’s will involve photography work and accounts will be happening on Fridays. Thursday is currently free so maybe that could be a day off or a social media day because we all know how important that is for online businesses right?
Sorting out finances
Our biggest goal for this year is to buy a house so we both do need to save a bit of money, not too much as we have a deposit already but we need to cover fees and stamp duty and possibly new furniture (if I have my way). I got a really cute money jar for Christmas and unlike my camera one I have sitting on my desk, this one is one of those you have to smash to get the money out. It’s no surprise that my other one is empty because I kept taking pound coins out to buy my costa each morning! That’s terrible isn’t it? LOL. So yeah, no more costa– we need a house!
I also need a new camera for my weddings this year because shooting a wedding with one camera is not a good idea and it’s totally unprofessional. I borrowed and hired a back up camera last year until I could figure out which one I wanted. I just need to find £1500 from somewhere and with a huge tax bill due in a few weeks I’m kinda panicking! But if 2016 taught me anything it’s that things always work out in the end so I know it will be fine.
I don’t think we will be enjoying a holiday this year as the goal is the new house so instead we have talked about taking a week off to spend at home together in the hope that the British Summertime may in fact be filled with sunshine. I’m hoping I’ll get a few more wedding bookings between now and summer so that will help a lot with the purchase of the new camera. Fingers crossed guys and maybe help a girl out on Facebook by sharing my website? Much appreciated!
With work and finances sorted there is only one other thing I am focusing on this year– my health.
My crohns is being a little bitch right now and feels the need to constantly remind me of the fact I haven’t been taking proper care of myself over the last couple of months. I have another colonoscopy booked in for 3 weeks and already I’m feeling a tad anxious about it. I’m currently recording a vlog on this to explain the entire procedure and prep, which I think will make for an interesting watch so look out for that! In the meantime, Rich bought me a Nutribullet and I’ve been making power smoothies for breakfast. My fave is:
As you already know, I do love working out and even though I’m not the most consistent person, I’m quite proud of myself for working out over the Christmas period this time round. Keeping fit is really important to me, not only for the physical benefits but also for the mental benefits training provides. I dread most my workouts– I’d much rather be at home curled up in a blanket but after I’ve worked out I feel amazing. I find going to the gym helps me switch off as when I’m at home or at work I’m still thinking about all the things I need to do. I don’t think much when I’m working out. I listen to lots of motivational videos to help spur me on and my mind just clears. It’s a really nice feeling.
Over Christmas I bought some new leggings from Newlook which basically feel like tights so they are super comfy! Whenever I get new clothes to workout in it makes me want to go to the gym so I’d definitely recommend investing in some new kit if you want to get in shape this year.
I have to get my Crohns under control if I want to have a baby in the near future so I’m making health my number 1 priority of the year!
2017 is a big year for us but I’m taking things one lemon infused water at a time. I’m not over thinking things but getting organised is definitely a start!
