Last weekend, my friend Gemma whisked me off to Henley On Thames on a wine tasting experience at the beautiful Chiltern Valley Winery & Brewery, Oxfordshire which also included one nights accommodation at the Farmhouse B&B, overlooking the vineyard.
Unfortunately we arrived one hour late so missed the first part of the tour (the part where they talk about the history of the winery– not important at all) but strolled in just in time for the best part– tasting the wine!
Being a red wine kinda girl, I was initial a little bit disappointed at the fact we would only be trying their white wine, but actually the wine was so good, we ended up buying a bottle to enjoy during the afternoon. After tasting 3 amazing wines, we moved onto the ales. Not my favorite, but very interesting all the same. Lastly, we got the chance to taste some liquors and a very delicious cream liqueur– think Bailys but WAY better!
Everyone then had the chance to purchase from the cellar gift shop, including gorgeous hampers and personal gifts. Although lunch wasn’t included in the tour, food was available to buy in the shop which you can take into Old Luxters Barn where they hold weddings. By the way, Old Luxters Barn is a lovely wedding venue and if you’d like to read my mini review over on my wedding photography website, you will find this HERE.
We opted for a bottle of medium white wine and two glasses of prosecco, after all, we were on a girly weekend 😉
After drinking way more than is allowed on a Saturday afternoon before 4pm, we checked in to the Farmhouse B&B. This place is seriously cute and is perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway. Still, us girls have fun no matter where we are and sharing a bed isn’t a problem! Matching robes are also available to make it feel even more like a girly getaway.
There isn’t actually anything to do at Chiltern Valley Winery & Brewery, except drink wine of course, but if you’re a keen walker, then you will love this place as the B&B is surrounded by beautiful country-side and trails. I noticed there is also a poolside room, featuring its own private (small) pool, which looks amazing on the website so definitely worth checking this out.
I didn’t really have the right lens with me for interior shots so I haven’t done the venue as much justice as it deserves, but you can have a look on their website for more images and info.
With only 5 rooms in the main building, dinner needs to be pre booked as there isn’t a restaurant as such. This is literally a house and the kitchen is only open when people are booked in to eat. The house also features a living room with TV and a downstairs toilet. Breakfast was also included and is served from 8am.
You can actually hire the entire house as a self catering holiday/break and it sleeps up to 10 people. Anyway, we chose to head into Henley On Thames for dinner as the thought of a romantic meal for two in our robes just wasn’t what we had in mind!
If you are looking for a romantic weekend away, or want to treat your best girlfriend to a girly weekend, this is the place for you! To find out more about the wine tasting experience at Chiltern Valley Winery & Brewery, you can visit their website HERE.
